One of the original communities of Dana Point, California, is Dana Knolls. This single family neighborhood offers a beach lifestyle with luxury amenities.
Dana Knolls has 298 homes that were built as vacation homes in the early 1960s. There are a variety of floor plans, and residents do not have any Home Owners Association dues or Mello Roos. This neighborhood has many two story homes, as well as the occasional single level home with two to three bedrooms.
Dana Knolls is located in the Del Obispo area, and is within minutes of the Doheny State Beach. Dana Point Harbor has many things to do, from shopping and dining to water sports and whale watching. Inland just a couple minutes on Camino Del Avion is the Ocean Ranch shopping center. And the harbor has many charming shops and restaurants. The city of Dana Point features the St. Regis Hotel and the Ritz Carlton. For golf enthusiasts there is the Monarch Beach Golf Club, and the El Niguel Country Club which features a traditional 18-hole championship golf course.
The Capistrano Unified School District serves Dana Knolls with facilities like Del Obispo Elementary School, as well as highly ranked Marco Forester Middle School and Dana Hills High School. Opened in 1972, Dana High is one of the oldest high schools in the region. Its cross country team has won several state titles. There are also several private schools in this city, such as Broderick Montessori School, South Shores Christian Preschool and Kindergarten, and Capo Beach Christian School.
Dana Point is a popular surfing city and has one of the few Orange County coast harbors. It was named after the Dana Point headland which came from Richard Henry Dana, Jr. author of Two Years Before the Mast. The harbor is now bustling with activity, and features a replica of the Pilgrim, Dana’s ship. And today this is a California Historical Landmark.
